So my I was about to fetch my sister from the airport when I thought I’d drop by at a new pastry shop to surprise her with one of our favorite among other sweets—CUPCAKES!
I dropped by Sweet Little Things, a cutesy shop in a new little arcade a few blocks away from Parklane Hotel.
I must say, their packaging is nice and clean. Very cupcake-ish.
Must check that they’re still okay before I pop the “Welcome to Cebu! Surprise!” chant.
I decided to try their Red Velvet Cupcake, Cookies and Cream Cupcake and Flourless Mudpie.
One thing I learned when I studied in University of the Philippines is INTEGRITY.
Thus, when you say FLOURLESS it has to be 100% flourless. Adding even a single tablespoon won’t allow you to call it flourless, so please please please stop with the false claims already. Ahh, my trust issues.
This is why I was so turned off with the shop. I thought I found another Sonja’s Cupcake in SLT. But alas, I still have to go to Dessert Factory for a decent Red Velvet.
Being a person of professional culinary arts education, I believe I can critique and state my honest opinion.
The Red Velvet was light and tasted good with the incorporation of chocolate chips although the frosting was off texture-wise.
The Cookies and Cream was okay because it was not too sweet. Although the cake itself was too dry that it was crumbling as we took a bite.
The Flourless Mudpie. Sigh. The Mudpie could have been their star product. I thought the burnt edges was very good, it gave texture to the food, however it was too sweet it tasted like burnt caramel.
So the chronicle continues.
WE did not let our disappoint get the best of us. We went to Cyma to have a decent dinner.
Thus, their House Salad. I just love arugula among all the greens next to Lolo Rossa and Romaine. I guess it’s an acquired taste because other people I know can’t appreciate it. But I just love the nutty taste I get each crunchy bite I take. Yum!
Then our entree was served. Grilled Salmon. No fuss, just salt, pepper and some butter-lemon sauce. We have always loved everything grilled and ohhh man the salmon. Who doesn’t love salmon? The best thing about this dinner? We savored it together. :)
What is a sister bonding without shopping?
So we head off to our favorites: Topshop, Promod and Mango. If only we had Zara in Cebu it’d be perfect, plus the coffee shops by the bay with the air breezing through our hair as we listen to good acoustic music-it’d be a bonus! But then again, that wouldn’t make our Cebu days different from our Manila times. :)
I just love having my sister around, I mean, we learn a lot from each other.
The night wouldn’t end until we sit and do our thing when we’re together- listen to live bands! So we head to Ila Puti.
We attempted to only take in something healthy. We started good, I had Dalandan Freeze while she had Pink Lemonade.
Then we gave in to temptation.Bad decision! We ordered Fish and Chips since the next table’s fish and chips were calling us, whispering that we have to get one too!
I was too fascinated with the night, I didn’t mind that they were cooked in the wrong temperature. It was almost burnt and the inside was still a little bit raw.
The ambience, the servers and especially the band was too good, we didn’t mind it being undercooked at all. Excused!
Sizzling Gambas. I love this indulging to this sin once in awhile. The perfect pica-pica!
That’s for today’s dose of my life’s sugar, spice and secrets.
